Anyone can make a comment in support of, or object to, a planning application. The deadline for submission of comments is usually 21 days from date of notification.

The best way to make a comment is on North Ayrshire Council’s Online Planning Information System (OPIS). However, comments can also be made in writing to: Planning Services, North Ayrshire Council, Cunninghame House, Irvine, KA12 8EE, or by emailing North Ayrshire Council at: eplanning@north-ayrshire.gov.uk. Remember to include the reference number for the application you are commenting on and your name and full address.

It is important that your comments relate only to issues that are legally relevant under planning law (material considerations). Comments about any other matters will not be considered by North Ayrshire Council.

Examples of material considerations include:

• Whether the proposal complies with the Local Development Plan.
• Sustainability and environmental matters.
• Appearance.
• The impact on surroundings.
• Planning and economic benefits.
• The need for the development.
• Overlooking, overshadowing, loss of light and loss of privacy.
• The potential for noise disturbance.
• The impact on archaeology.
• The impact on the setting of listed buildings or conservation areas.
• Safety issues.
• Compatibility with existing uses.
• Access, parking and transportation.
• The adequacy of infrastructure.
• The creation of an undesirable precedent.

Examples of comments that will not be taken into account include:

• Personal interests.
• Ownership issues.
• Loss of property value.
• Obstruction of views.
• Disruption during construction.
• Moral, political or ideological considerations.
• Cost.
• The prospect of the development proceeding.
