Physics painting 2216 by Gregor Harvie

#2216

122cm x 122cm, acrylic on 2 panels

This apparently simple painting becomes more complex as it is studied. The forms within it are not what they seem, distorted and disconnected in the detail that underpins their basic shape. It is an analogy for the Calabi–Yau manifold, which distorts a two-dimensional plane into a three-dimensional form, a possible structure for the extra dimensions proposed by string theory.
