“The Structure of the Universe” an exhibition of paintings by Gregor Harvie will be open 3 August to 30 August, 10am to 5pm, at the Hunter Saville Cumbrae Studio and Gallery, 14 Guildford Street, Millport, KA28 0AE. This is an opportunity to see a collection of new work exploring the importance of patterns in fundamental physics.
The Dark Universe - 400cm x 200cm acrylic on four panels
Based on a lattice of Kelvin cells, with a layout derived from an AI generated interpretation of dark matter and dark energy. This is one of two large Kelvin paintings commissioned by the Quantum Theory Group at the University of Glasgow.

The Light Universe - 400cm x 200cm acrylic on four panels
A lattice of Kelvin cells through which light is transmitting. The lines are based on the spectral emission pattern of carbon with colours taken from the Kelvin colour scale. This is the second of two large Kelvin paintings commissioned by the Quantum Theory Group at the University of Glasgow.

In 1887, Lord Kelvin proposed a structure for the universe based on a complex lattice of doubly-curved truncated octahedrons. Gregor re-created that structure using 3D computer modelling software to celebrate 200 years since Kelvin's birth.
